Ford says that the Mustang Boss 302 is all about performance – and with a 5.0-liter V8 sending 444 HP and 380 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels, there’s no doubt about that. With most major changes having been introduced last year, the new Boss receives only a few updates for the 2013MY.
Along with the mild tweaks of the regular 2013 Mustang, the latest Boss 302 and Boss Laguna Seca gain new hockey stick graphics with reflective stripes and a School Bus yellow paint, both of which pay homage to the 1970 Trans-Am racer driven by Parnelli Jones.
“Last year, we proved the car had what it takes to perform, and this year we focused on enhancing its eye-catching looks and celebrating its history”, said Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak.
“Everything we did for 2013 is consistent with and links directly back to our 1970 heritage. The reflective stripes and hockey stick graphic in particular mean something to Mustang enthusiasts," he added.
The 2013MY Mustang Boss also gets a newly designed splitter, functional hood vents, standard HID headlights and easily removable covers, for increased cooling on track days, instead of foglights up front, plus LED tailamps that are “connected” with a glossy black panel at the rear.
In the cabin, Ford has added the SYNC infotainment system in the standard spec sheet. It includes hands-free with voice activation calling via Bluetooth connectivity, a USB connection for digital music players, an automated “911 Assist” emergency calling service free for life, and an on-demand diagnostic and information service.
