The supercar segment will soon welcome a new entrant in the guise of the one-off Vulcano, which is coachbuilt in Italy and designed by Icona, an Italian design house based in Shanghai,China.Set for a world premiere at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show in April, the Vulcano is a two-seater supercar featuring a hybrid powertrain that combines a front-mounted V12 engine with a pair of electric motors. The drivetrain is the work of former powertrain technical director of Ferrari, Claudio Lombardi.
Icona says the V12 hybrid powertrain will deliver a combined system output of "up to 900-horsepower" allowing the car to accelerate from zero to 200km/h (124mph) in under 10 seconds and reach a top speed of "around 350km/h (218mph)".
The China-based company released a single teaser image of the Vulcano, the design of which it says, "is an evolution of the very advanced form language which was first introduced on the Icona Fuselage concept [see photos below] in 2011 by Samuel Chuffart, Icona’s design director".
Full details and imagery of the new supercar will be released closer to its motor show debut.
