BMW has announced some notable updates for its North American-market 2014 model year 6-Series range of coupe, convertible and four-door Gran Coupe models beginning with the welcome addition of a 6-speed manual gearbox for all M6 body styles, continuing a long tradition of offering a stick shift option to American drivers. The 6-speed manual transmission for the 2014 model M6 Coupe, Convertible, and Gran Coupe will be available as a no-cost extra on all three models. The gearbox was developed in-house by BMW M GmbH engineers and it includes a rev-match function in the EFFICIENT and SPORT modes of operation, but it can be switched off by selecting the SPORT+ mode.
BMW has also added an M Carbon Ceramic Brakes option for all M6 models. The new brakes offer weight savings of 42.8 pounds (19.4 kg) as well as improved performance, and are distinguished by the gold-painted brake calipers.
For the 2014 model year, the 640i, 650i, and M6 in all three body styles gain the latest-generation of BMW's iDrive (4.2) system with new functions, revised user interface that now comprises 3D elements, and an improved navigation system. In addition, xDrive is now available as an option on the 2014 640i Gran Coupe, joining other 640i and 650i Gran Coupe models offered with the firm's all-wheel drive system.
Finally, BMW is presenting a new special version of the 6-Series Convertible named "Frozen Brilliant White Edition", available as a rear-wheel drive 650i, or an all-wheel drive 650i xDrive in a limited number of 100 copies with prices set at $106,695 and $110,095, respectively, including an $895 destination and handling fee.
Available from April, the special edition soft top model is finished in a BMW Individual Frozen Brilliant White Metallic exterior matte paint, with Frozen Black wing mirror caps, black BMW kidney grilles, and 20-inch bi-color Ferric Gray / gloss M alloy wheels.
The interior is upgraded with black Nappa leather upholstery, 'Gray Poplar' wood trim and BMW’s new Dynamic Digital Instrument Cluster. The M Sport Package and Executive Package are also included as standard, while xDrive models benefit from the Cold Weather Package as well.
