If you want an efficient and modern compact sedan, one of the current favorites of US buyers is the Kia Forte. Now, Kia has launched an all-new for the 2014 model-year version of its saloon, which it claims, "offers the lowest base price in the segment" starting at $15,900, plus a $800 destination charge (*).
Even in base trim, the new Forte has a decent selection of standard equipment. It gets satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, power-folding heated mirrors, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and air-conditioning. Opt for the Popular Package, and 16-inch alloys, cruise control and keyless entry are also added, while the EX trim cars get a UVO infotainment system, parking camera and a cooled glove box.
The Forte comes with a 1.8-liter 148 hp engine as standard, which can be had with an automatic transmission, which bumps up the starting price by $1,500. The higher-grade EX trim, powered by the bigger 2.0-liter direct-injection engine, with 173 hp, will set you back $19,400.
Buyers can also specify a Premium Pack, for the EX, which adds amenities like power-adjustable heated front seats (and steering wheel), with cooled 10-way-adjustable driver's seat, as well as a heated rear bench and leather upholstery and 17-inch rims, wrapped in low-profile rubber.
Last but not least, a Technology Package adds HID headlights, fancy LED tail lights, a color LCD cluster screen measuring 4.2 inches and dual-zone climate control, which also happens to add ventilation for rear seat occupants, as well.
This piece may very well look like a list of optional extras, which may not say much about my writing skills, but it says a lot about the 2014 Kia Forte, which seems to represent a good value for money, regardless of which one you go for, or how many of the options boxes you tick.
