The GM Fleet & Commercial Division revealed three new versions of the Cadillac XTS. Mind you, they are not “special” editions, but livery, limousine and funeral coach - aka hearse, variants of Cadillac's luxury saloon.
The livery variant of the XTS is powered by a 300 HP 3.6-liter V6 coupled to a six-speed transmission and it returns 17 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.
The XTS Livery Sedan Package, code-named W20, includes a number of features such as magnetic ride control suspension with air-leveling at the rear, HID headlights, Brembo brakes behind 19-inch polished alloy wheels, passive entry, remote start, a rear vision camera and obstacle detection system, the CUE infotainment system and illuminated door handles.
As an option, buyers can specify the luxury level 1 package, which consists of heated and cooled, thigh adjustable front seats (with memory on the driver’s), wood trim, a premium audio system with surround sound, a navigation system and an ambient lighting package.
Passengers will likely care more about the space available in the cabin. The XTS Livery offers ample space for three, with a 56.3-inch shoulder room, 54.3-inch hip room and 40-inch legroom, as well as their luggage thanks to an 18 cubic feet boot.
If the rear seat comfort package has been specified, then they will also get heated seats, tri-zone HVAC controls, heated seats, a power inverter and side window and backlight sun-shades for extra privacy.
Details about the limo and hearse are close to non-existent at this time.
Cadillac spokesman David Caldwell said that while the livery comes as a GM factory package, the limo and hearse versions are outsourced to “a small network of professional vehicle companies who are authorized to build these”, since GM does not build specialty bodies in-house.
He admitted that the Lincoln Town Car “has for a long time been the far-and-away market leader for these”, adding that the XTS will probably not outsell its rival.
“We are doing something specific in a different direction, we are offering a bit more luxury inside than standard XTS models, which honestly will limit the volume quite a bit, but is the right approach for how we wish to present the brand.”
