There are more automotive awards given each year than you can shake a stick at; there's the World Car of the Year, the American Car/Truck of the Year, the European Car of the Year, and so on and so forth.
Then there are individual publication and website awards. Luckily, most of them are driver oriented, thus their “COTY” announcements usually concern a driver’s car and not a people carrier or an underpowered eco-box.
The crew over at Motor Trend has published a behind-the-scenes video explaining its criteria in judging the best new driver’s car of 2011.
The El Toro former Marine base, the Laguna Seca racetrack and some twisty roads along with a batch of sports cars, including the Lexus LFA, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Nissan GT-R, Ford Mustang Boss Laguna Seca and Ferrari 458 Italia all come together in the first of the part of the video series that you can watch after the break.
