If there's one thing Lancia has learned to do well under the loving arms of the Fiat Group over the years, it is special editions with which it tries to conceal the fact that it lacks a full range of new models in its lineup...At the rapidly approaching Geneva Motor Showthat opens on March 5, the Italian carmaker will host the world premiere of two new Ypsilon specials (sold in the UK as a Chrysler), the Elefantino and the S MOMODESIGN.
Scheduled for a European launch in the second half of 2013, the new Ypsilon S MOMODESIGN was created in partnership with Italian designer, manufacturer, and retailer of motorcycle clothing and accessories, MOMODESIGN.
Customers will be able to customize the looks of the car through a selection of five two-tone color schemes, which include a body in Neve White, Vulcano Black, Argilla Red, Pietra Grey or Zaffiro Blue, with Matte Black used for the tailgate, roof and door mirrors. Chrome-plated elements and black 15-inch alloy wheels or optionally, 16-inch matte black rims, round out the exterior makeover.
The S MOMODESIGN model also gains a uniquely trimmed interior featuring black 'sail' fabric upholstery with grey stitching for door panels, dashboard and specific seats, plus instrument gauges in a yellow shade.
Engine options for this model include the 69PS 1.2 Fire EVO II, 69PS 1.2 Fire EVO II LPG, 85PS 0.9 TwinAir (matched with mechanical or robotised sequential gearboxes) and the 95PS turbo diesel 1.3 MultiJet II.
Lancia's second special edition Ypsilon is the Elefantino series, which was first used by the company for its legendary rally team in 1953, and reappeared as trim name for the Y from 1997 to 2003.
It is offered in the following colors: a new Turquoise (available from June 2013), Sabbia Beige, Neve White, Pietra Grey and a brand-new two-tone Turquoise/Vulcano Black, also available from June. Alloy wheels are optional. The interior is the same for all exterior shades, and includes unique upholstery, chrome-plated finishes on the dashboard and a leather steering wheel.
The Yspilon Elefantino will be offered with all engine variants coupled to manual gearboxes.
