General Motors is evidently placing a lot of focus on the sportier characteristics of the soon-to-be launched 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Turbo, as for the second time in the past couple of months, it has released a video of the car on the track.Mark Meyers, GM Global Vehicle Performance Manager, tries out the Malibu Turbo LTZ at the Milford Proving Grounds and shares his thoughts about the most potent version of Chevrolet's new mid-size sedan.
Power for this model comes courtesy of an all-new 2.0L turbocharged engine rated at 259Hp (193 kW) and 260 lb.-ft. (353 Nm) of peak torque sustained between 1,700 and 5,500 rpm.
The Turbo model can go from 0 to 60 mph (62km/h) in 6.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph (250km/h). It also has an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.
"The all-new turbocharged engine showcases just how capable the new Malibu is, and the turbocharged Malibu is perfect for customers who want a midsize sedan that is fun to drive under a wide range of real-world conditions,” said Meyers. “With its global pedigree and European tuning, the new Malibu has a robust body structure, premium steering and suspension, and substantial four-wheel disc brakes,” he added.
Scheduled to arrive in Chevrolet showrooms later this fall, the new Malibu Turbo starts at $27,710 for the LT grade and $30,925 for the better equipped LTZ, with both prices including a $995 dealer freight charge.
