Audi's push into the U.S. diesel market will continue with the presentation of four-new models at next week's Los Angeles Auto Show. Joining the already available Q7 3.0 TDI that went on sale in America this past September, Audi will soon offer the same updated 3.0-liter V6 TDI 'clean diesel' on the A8, A7, A6 and Q5 models. With the exception of the A8 TDI that will go on sale first in spring of 2013, the other three TDI models will arrive in U.S. dealerships in the fall of the same year.
“Owners of Audi TDI engines have helped save over 4 million gallons of gasoline, or the equivalent of more than 240,000 barrels of foreign oil, since the introduction of Audi TDI to the U.S. in 2009,” said Scott Keogh, President of Audi of America. "And, TDI technology delivers better fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance."
Audi's 3.0-liter diesel unit generates an output of 240 horsepower and a peak torque of 406 lb.-ft. (550Nm), allowing the A8 TDI to reach 60mph (96km/h) from standstill in 6.4 seconds, while returning a manufacturer estimated fuel efficiency of 24 MPG (9.8lt/100km) in the city and 36 MPG (6.5 lt/100km) on the highway.
The brand with the four rings did not release any figures for the other models.
