One of the key factors to the success of thePorsche 911 series is the variety of models and factory customization options, something that continues with the latest 991 models.Today, Porsche announced the introduction of a new power enhancement kit developed specifically for the 2013 911 Carrera S. The so-called 'Powerkit' boosts the power of the 3.8-liter boxer engine from 394hp (400PS) to 424hp (430PS).
As a result, 911 Carrera S with the PDK dual-clutch transmission in Sport Plus mode completes the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.0 seconds (0-60mph in 3.8 seconds), an improvement of 0.3 seconds over the regular PDK Carrera S model and 0.1 seconds when fitted with the Sport Chrono package.
Porsche says the kit also increases the top speed by four km/h (~3mph) to 306 km/h (190mph) with PDK and to 308 km/h (191mph) with a seven-speed manual gearbox.
Despite the increase in power and the improved performance numbers, the Stuttgart carmaker says fuel consumption values remain unchanged over the regular model.
The main elements of the Powerkit are special cylinder heads with different camshafts, a new variable resonance intake system design with six air flaps and a resonance flap, plus an additional center radiator to keep temperatures under control and a sport exhaust system with two sets of twin tailpipes.
The Powerkit also includes the Sport Chrono package as standard along with a titanium colored engine cover and carbon inlays.
Together with the Powerkit, Porsche also announced the launch of a new set of aero enhancing exterior parts including a new front apron that now extends lower and features the open air intakes from the Sport Design package, a fixed rear “ducktail” spoiler and the Aerokit Cup that bundles an assortment of components.
