Longtime Carscoop reader Leopaul R. tipped us off about a teaser for a "second generation" CR-Z that appeared on Honda's Japanese website today.
We couldn't translate most of the words seen in the flash movie (any help from our Japanese readers would be appreciated) but the site did give a date for the presentation: September 27, 2012, which also happens to be the first press day of the Paris Motor Show, though we cannot say for sure if the two events are related.
There are three teaser images including one of the CR-Z's headlamps with what looks like an LED strip on the bottom (keep in mind though, this option is already offered on the European-market model), an alloy wheel design and a button with the "S+" sign.
That's not a lot of information to go by, but given that the CR-Z was only just launched in 2010, it's more likely to concern a new model year version with some cosmetic and perhaps mechanical updates than a true "second generation".
The CR-Z hasn't exactly been a hit for Honda, with reviewers and enthusiasts alike panning it for its sluggish performance.
In the United States, sales of the hybrid model from January through August this year reached 3,126 vehicles, down 67.6 percent from the same period in 2011.
Thanks to Leopaul R. for the tip!
