Thanks to an EPA certified EPA-certified 108 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) in the city, Ford's new C-MAX Energi has been afforded the title of America’s most fuel-efficient plug-in hybrid.The compact minivan that shares most of its parts with the regular 47 mpg C-MAX Hybridadding plug-in capability, also returns 100 MPGe on the combined cycle.
Naturally, Ford couldn't resist mentioning that the C-MAX Energi beats Toyota's Prius Plug-in Hybrid by 5 MPGe on the combined rating.
“With $5-per-gallon gasoline, C-MAX Energi customers essentially will pay $1.25 per gallon for the same distance traveled compared with average vehicles estimated to achieve 23 mpg,” said John Davis, chief nameplate engineer, C-MAX Energi.
The new C-MAX energy will go on sale in the U.S. later this fall with a starting price of $33,745before a $3,750 federal tax credit and additional tax credits up to $1,500 in California.
